About Toto
The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also acclaimed studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The name of the group came from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every style of music.
In 1981 Toto's third album Turn Back is a failure, but they rebound with their fourth album Isolation that features two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour make Toto a household name across the globe.
After a gap of couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. It's a change from the ballads of their previous albums and also includes some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
In the course of recording the fifth album, the group loses its manager and faces financial challenges. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name with an entirely different producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen departs and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is more natural as a frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a massive worldwide tour. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. This includes a cover version of Weezer’s song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's performance in Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.
